Suspect sought for alleged series of arson at Vaughan bus shelters

Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly deliberately set fires at bus shelters in Vaughan.

York Regional Police were initially called to a fire at a bus shelter near Clark Avenue and Hilda Avenue around 10:15 p.m. on Jan. 20 where a bench inside the shelter was on fire.

Fire crews had already put out the fire before officers arrived.

Several hours later, at around 5:40 a.m. on Jan. 21, police were called to the area of Clark and Yonge Street for a garbage bin on fire beside a bus shelter. Investigators learned a male suspect had placed an accelerant in the bin and set the fire around 3:40 a.m.

The investigation further revealed a suspect started another fire a couple of minutes later in a garbage bin at a bus shelter near Clark Avenue and Charles Street.

The series of fires caused approximately $8,000 in damage, police say.

The same suspect is believed to be responsible for setting all three fires. Police have released photo and a video in hopes someone will be able to identify him.
