Man charged for stabbing passenger multiple times in unprovoked attack on bus in Oshawa

A man was arrested and faces charges after allegedly stabbing a passenger at random on a transit bus in Oshawa, Durham Regional Police said.
Authorities were called to the King Street West and Stevenson Road area just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, for reports of a stabbing on a Durham Region Transit bus.
It’s alleged that a man approached another male passenger, who was unknown to him, and stabbed him twice before fleeing the bus. The suspect was located and taken into custody a short time later.
Police said the male victim was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Corey Vaskamp of Oshawa. He faces several charges, including assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, possession of weapons dangerous to public peace and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
Authorities are investigating a similar incident involving Vaskamp, which occurred just before 6 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, in the Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue area.
It’s alleged that the accused was assaulting an elderly male passenger on a Durham Region Transit bus. Vaskamp was located at the scene, but the victim left the area before speaking with police.
Investigators urge anyone involved in an incident with the accused to come forward.
