Motorcyclist arrested after Toronto police officer struck while directing traffic

Toronto police have arrested a motorcyclist who allegedly struck a police officer directing traffic in the city’s south end last week.

Police say they received a report of the collision just before 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 7.

Investigators say the motorcyclist was going eastbound on Lake Shore near Budweiser Stage when he disobeyed a police officer directing traffic in the area. Police say the motorcyclist then collided with the officer and fled the scene.

The officer suffered minor injuries.

Investigators released images of the suspect and the motorcycle later that day.

In an update on Wednesday, police say investigators executed a search warrant on Aug. 9 and “items of evidentiary value were seized.”

Khalid Patrick Idris, 34, of Toronto, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance cause bodily harm and fail to stop at scene of accident cause bodily harm.

He is also charged under the Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with fail to stop when signaled or requested to do so by police, drive motor vehicle – improper licence, and owner operate motor vehicle on highway no insurance.
