Five men from Chile charged in series of Toronto, GTA break-and-enters

Five men from Chile have been arrested and charged in a series of alleged residential break-and-enters across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

York Regional Police officers launched an investigation on Dec. 13. The suspects were identified after allegedly committing a residential break-and-enter on Avenue Road and Wilson Avenue in Toronto.

The same suspects then attempted to commit a second break and enter in the area of Indian Road and Woodeden Drive. The men returned to a rental property in the area of Burnhamthorpe Road and Eternity Way in
Oakville, where one of the suspects was arrested.

Investigators were prepared to execute a search warrant at the Oakville property when four additional suspects fled the residence and were taken into custody by Halton police.

Numerous items of jewellery and valuables were recovered, and investigators have linked the accused to six break-and-enters.

Police said the evidence is still being processed. Once photos are shared, the items will be returned to their owners.

The men were identified as Michael Brandon Fornells Quezada, 27, Jonathan Alexis Gamboa Carrancio, 36, Claudio Andres Valdes Poblete, 39, Ricardo Javier Parada Neirda, 35, and Daniel Arturo Reyes Miranda, 32, all of Chile. The charges include six counts each of break-and-enter commit, among other related offences.

Authorities noted that the five accused are believed to have been in the country to commit crimes. As a result, their photos have been released, as police anticipate more victims will come forward.
