A woman in her 70s has died after she was struck by a vehicle in North York, police say.

Police say around 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday the woman was walking eastbound on Wilson Avenue and was in the “middle of the roadway” at Faywood Boulevard when she was struck by a blue Honda Odyssey which was travelling south and making a left-hand turn onto Wilson.

Emergency responders rushed the woman to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene.

Investigators say they will be looking into several factors that led up to the fatal crash including speed, which residents say has been a major concern for some time.

Area residents point out that there is a large gap between two traffic intersections where pedestrians can safely cross.

“I’ve lived here for more than 20 years, this is the first condo here and now we have like 10 and five more, so I think with the traffic you have to fix that,” one woman tells CityNews.

“Sometimes I just jaywalk across the street because I’m in a rush but the traffic is crazy,” said another man. “You have a condo here, lots of people living in these apartments – a couple of crosswalks would be great.”

This is the third fatal collision involving a pedestrian so far in 2025 compared to just one fatality recorded over the same period a year ago.
