‘The King’s Speech’ crowned at Oscars

The King’s Speech was crowned the winner at Sunday night’s Oscars, with the film taking home the trophy for Best Picture and its star, Colin Firth, winning Best Actor for his portrayal of King George VI.

Firth had previously won both a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for his performance.

The King’s Speech was nominated for 12 awards and took home four. Director Tom Hooper brought home the hardware for his work behind the camera and David Seidler won for Best Original Screenplay.

Meanwhile, Natalie Portman won Best Actress for her role as a troubled ballerina in Black Swan.

Melissa Leo and Christian Bale took home Best Supporting trophies for their work together in The Fighter.

Canada’s Incendies, directed by Denis Villeneuve, lost to Denmark’s In A Better World for Best Foreign Film.
