Harry Potter in New York City
This past week my His Take/Her Take partner Suzanne (pictured above at F.A.O. Schwarz on Fifth Avenue in the iconic Harry Potter glasses) and I got to go to New York City to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and attend the press conference with the cast and crew. Although screening the film at the Time Warner building and staying at the Waldorf-Astoria (thanks to Warner Bros.) was an amazing experience, it’s all about the movie. And I loved it! If you’re a fan of the series (as I am) you won’t be disappointed. We’ll be posting a few more Potter stories (wizards say the darndest things) and our official review over the next couple of days. Below is a photo of the giant billboard for the film overlooking Times Square.
Have yourself a moving Potter experience
3D is so last year! The new craze is motion effects in your seat. And if you want to see AND feel the latest Harry Potter flick head over to the Queensway Cineplex in Toronto. For an extra $7 you will get to sit in one of the special D-BOX Motion Seats and literally be moved with Harry and the gang as they battle evil forces and play Quidditch. I tested the seat last week and think it’s brilliant (especially during those Quidditch matches). Although an extra $7 is steep, if you want a different movie-going experience that won’t bore you this is worth it. The Queensway Cineplex is the first theatre in Canada to offer the D-BOX Motion Seats but I’m sure we can expect it to catch on (or you can buy the home version). Check out an interview with D-BOX Technologies Director of Marketing Guy Marcoux below for more insight into what motion seating is all about.
Win 1 of 15 Double Passes to an advance Harry Potter screening
I couldn’t just talk about the new Potter without giving you a chance to see it. If you want to be one of the first Muggles to check it out in Toronto, email me at brian.mckechnie@citynews.ca and tell me so. The first fifteen (15) people to email me their names, age and phone number will get one (1) double pass to see an advance screening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince at the AMC Yonge-Dundas on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 7:30pm. Winners will be asked to pick up their passes in-person at 299 Queen St. West the day of the screening. Good luck!
