Thomas’ Homer Leads Jays Past Red Sox

The Toronto Blue Jays picked up Frank Thomas in the off-season hoping he hit some big homers in some big games.   On Monday night, the man affectionately known as ‘The Big Hurt’ earned his paycheck in a big way.

Thomas’ 490 th career homer, a two-run drive off Tim Wakefield in the sixth inning, helped lead the Jays to a commanding 7-3 win over the rival Boston Red Sox.

Aaron Hill had a night to remember, with four hits, including a two-run homer in the ninth inning as Toronto snapped a five-game losing skid while simultaneously halting Boston’s five-game win streak.

Hill is off to a fast start this season, with four homers in 19 games after getting just six in 155 last year.

Tomo Ohka go the start for the blue birds, giving up just three runs — two earned — and six hits in five-plus innings.

Jason Frasor got his second save in two chances filling in for injured reliever B.J. Ryan.

Wakefield , who was brilliant the last time the two teams met, gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings.
