Major League Soccer says a yellow card to Toronto FC’s Tony Tchani for his weekend goal celebration was not warranted.
Paul Tamberino, director of the league’s competition department, says referee David Gantar “could have used better judgment here.”
Tchani had picked up a yellow card earlier in the game against the visiting Columbus Crew, so was ejected after receiving the second caution in the 42nd minute following his goal celebration.
The game turned on that decision, with Columbus taking advantage of its numerical superiority to tie the game in the 49th minute.
Saturday’s game finished at 1-1.
