Toronto Police Celebrate Golden Anniversary

It was the first event to kick off Police Week. Toronto Police Services held an open house Saturday to celebrate their 50th anniversary where they showed off just how far they’ve come from having ’57 Chevys to brand-spanking new police cruisers.

The force has grown over five decades. Today, there are over 5,000 officers serving and protecting our city. Staff Superintendent Gary Grant has been an officer for 39 years. In fact, he created the tip line ” Crimestoppers” for T.O. Grant briefly described what it was like for him in the very beginning of his career as an officer, “We didn’t have an office, didn’t have any people, any staff.”

Police Week officially runs from May 14-18.
