Eleven extras were hurt Sunday while filming a scene for a new Tom Cruise movie in Germany.
The men fell off the back of a truck after a bolt apparently came loose on the vehicle’s side panel. That sent the 11 individuals, plus another extra who escaped injury, flying. They were taken to a nearby hospital and fortunately only required outpatient treatment.
Cruise wasn’t part of the weekend filming. The production was put on hold for a time. Tentatively titled Valkyrie, the Mission Impossible star plays famed anti-Hitler plotter Col. Claus Graf Schenk von Stauffenberg.
The film has been a controversial one for Cruise from the start – some Germans were up in arms over the casting choice because the figure is one of the few national heroes from the Nazi era and they’re opposed to a Scientologist playing the part.
The German government believes Scientology, which Cruise is a notable follower of, takes advantage of vulnerable people.
