Vigil for teen crash victim at Richmond Hill high school

Friends and fellow students attended a vigil in Richmond Hill Tuesday for an 18-year-old girl killed in a long weekend car crash.

Loved ones gathered at St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic high school where a ceremony was held at 8:30 a.m. to remember Alessia Morisani.

“I can’t even describe what the pain was when I found out about Alessia. She is the most innocent person you’d ever meet,” said Morisani’s friend Natalie Alonzi.

Grief counsellors have been brought into the school to help any student in need.

Friends and family have been gathering at the crash site on Dufferin Street north of Major MacKenzie Drive in Vaughan where a makeshift memorial of flowers, stuffed animals and notes of condolence continues to grow.

St. Theresa Of Lisieux Principal Joseph Servidio led an impromptu prayer service for those who’d gathered at the site Monday night.

“We try to make sure we comfort our students, we try to make sure we comfort the family and we provide the counselling that these students need,” he said Monday.

Morisani was killed when the car she was riding in veered off the road and hit a hydro pole Sunday night.

The driver was seriously hurt and another teen in the backseat suffered minor injuries.

Police are still trying to figure out why the driver lost control.

“The driver could be face charges, they could be Highway Traffic Act charges, they could be Criminal Code charges,” said P.C. Blair McQuillan, York Regional Police.
