Man, woman shot at ‘illegal booze can’ in downtown Toronto

By News Staff

Toronto police are investigating a shooting in the city’s downtown core.

Officers responded to a call at an after-hours club in the King Street and Spadina Avenue area around 5 a.m. on Sunday.

Police told CityNews that two victims suffered critical injuries.

They said a 24-year-old man was rushed to hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound. A 30-year-old woman made her own way to hospital, and was then rushed to another hospital. She had also been shot.

An officer described the club as an “illegal booze can” that police have been trying to close down for some time. They have been working with the building landlords to shut it down permanently.

The police investigation is ongoing and no suspects have been identified at this time.

On Monday morning, police were still on the scene.

Correction: An earlier version of this story said the shooting happened in the Entertainment District. The Entertainment District ends at the east side of Spadina, and this shooting took place on the west side of Spadina.
