WestJet warns of possible data breach within its rewards program

WestJet is warning its rewards customers about a possible data breach from a third party.

In a release, the airline say the breach did not involve the credit card or banking information of any of its passengers but it is recommending anyone with an account to change their passwords.

“The privacy and protection of our guests’ information is a matter we take very seriously and we have worked swiftly and aggressively to resolve this incident,” said WestJet Vice-President and Chief Information Officer Craig Maccubbin.

Calgary police have been called in to investigate as well as the RCMP.

WestJet says they’ve also informed The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta as well as the federal Privacy Commissioner .
