Dr. Conrad Murray, who was found guilty earlier this month of involuntary manslaughter in the pop singer’s 2009 death, has been sentenced to four years in prison by a Los Angeles judge.
Murray was given the maximum sentence for the crime, and his request for probation was denied.
“The court has determined that the appropriate term is the high term of four years imprisonment,” said Judge Michael Pastor, during sentencing.
Pastor said Murray abandoned his patient, that he repeatedly lied, engaged in deceitful misconduct and tried to cover up his transgressions.
“He violated the trust of the medical community of his colleagues and of his patient,” the judge said. “And, he has absolutely no sense of remorse absolutely no sense of fault and is and remains dangerous.”
On Nov. 7, a seven-man, five-woman jury in Los Angeles deliberated for less than nine hours before coming up with the verdict.
Prosecutors successfully argued Murray was criminally responsible for Jackson’s death after recklessly administering propofol, a potent surgical anesthetic drug. They also convinced the jury he was negligent in properly monitoring Jackson.
Murray will serve his time in a Los Angeles county jail.
