Hadassah Wizo Bazaar Attracts Thousands Of Shoppers

On your mark, get set, shop!

The gloves were off, but at least they were on sale at the 83rd annual Hadassah Wizo Bazaar on Wednesday. Between 7,000 and 10,000 avid shoppers lined up – some arriving as early as 5am – to get into the doors of the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibition Place.

The event promised bargains galore, and it didn’t disappoint. What did those early birds find? Everything but the worms.

There were new wedding gowns going for next to nothing, designer jeans for $7, expensive $500 handbags for just $50, real gems for costume jewelry prices and more. There’s house wares, leather jackets, clothing, salt and pepper shakers, even golf balls at prices that are so low the tags look like they were filled out by mistake.

Some avid buyers didn’t have a second to spare. “I’d better hurry up before all the pickings go away,” Mary Estrele cries, as she rushes off. “I’m going to take a look for Christmas and that.” It’s her first time at the bazaar and she can’t wait to spend her money.

The line for those designer purses stretched roughly an entire city block. And it just kept on growing. “I saw people walking out with wedding dresses, tuxedos, purses, shoes,” entertainer Doo Doo the Clown relates. “It’s unbelievable!

Funds raised go to help hospitals and women’s shelters here and in Israel.

The show runs until 7pm. Admission is $4. The savings are priceless.
