Howard opens Brier with win over Odishaw

SASKATOON — Ontario’s Glenn Howard opened the Canadian men’s curling championship with a 6-5 win over New Brunswick’s Terry Odishaw on Saturday.
Saskatchewan’s Scott Manners, Nova Scotia’s Jamie Murphy and Quebec’s Robert Desjardins were also winners in the opening draw of the Tim Hortons Brier.
Manners doubled Prince Edward Island’s Mike Gaudet 8-4 to the delight of the crowd at Credit Union Centre.
Desjardins edged Manitoba’s Rob Fowler 7-6 in an extra end.
Nova Scotia’s Jamie Murphy scored five points in the fourth end en route to a 9-5 win over Jamie Koe of Yukon/Northwest Territories.
