You’d never know the Trail Blazers’ Brandon Roy had the flu, as he scored 25 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead Portland over Toronto 101-96.
It’s the team’s ninth straight win, and Roy, who has been the Western Conference player of the week the past two weeks, wants to make it 10.
“I was hurting a little bit, but we’re doing something special right now so I didn’t want that to get in the way,” Roy said.
The Blazers tied things at 87 on Travis Outlaw’s free throws after trailing for much of the second half. A layup by Roy put them on top and they managed to hold onto that small lead until the end of the game.
The Raptors’ Jose Calderon narrowed the gap to 97-93 with 1:47 left but Toronto couldn’t get any closer than that. Calderon had 18 points and nine assists, while Chris Bosh had 18 points and 11 rebounds.
“We didn’t play the best game and we were on a second game of a back-to-back,” Calderon said. “But we have to look at the positive side and try to work on that.”
The Raptors had won five of their previous six outings, and are in the midst of a seven-game road trip that started with a win Tuesday over the L.A. Clippers.
