Three male teens face weapons charges in Georgetown high school lockdown

Three male teens are facing weapons charges after a Georgetown high school was put in lockdown for almost four hours Thursday.
Halton Regional Police say they were called to Georgetown District High School around 3 p.m. after a staff member at the school observed individuals with what appeared to be guns.
Police allege several students broke into a secure storage area in the school’s Theatre Arts Department and removed several plastic replica guns.
The students then began pointing the guns at other unsuspecting students within the hallways, prompting school officials to call 911 and initiating a lockdown.
The students then fled the school and discarded the replicas in and around the school property. Police say all of the fake guns have been retrieved.
Three male teens – aged 14, 16 and 17 – are facing charges of theft and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. A fourth male, a 15-year-old, has been released after an investigation determined his involvement in the incident was minimal.
The suspects cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
