The U.N. special envoy for next month’s climate summit says the three-day event will highlight the urgency of taking immediate actions to reduce global warming and focus on new ideas that work — not wordy statements.
Luis Alfonso de Alba said Tuesday that the aim is to spur governments, cities, the private sector and people everywhere to start scaling-up in 2020.
The event will begin on Sept. 21 with a daylong Youth Climate Summit, followed the next day by the presentation of initiatives from coalitions which include members of the government, business sector and civil society in addition to youth representatives, he said.
De Alba said the most ambitious initiatives will be presented along with government plans at the Sept. 23 Climate Summit, where some 100 world leaders are expected.
