Toronto police have released video of a vehicle believed to be leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run last week in Scarborough.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Sheppard Avenue East between Abbotsfield Gate and Palmdale Drive at 10:23 p.m. Friday.

According to police, 34-year-old Celeste Jones was standing in the centre turn lane, crossing Sheppard from the south side to the north. It’s believed she was waiting for a break in westbound traffic.

It was reported that the suspects vehicle was heading eastbound on Sheppard travelling at a high rate of speed in the centre turn lane.

The vehicle struck Jones and continued east on Sheppard. Police say it was last seen making a right turn onto southbound Warden Avenue.

Security video released by police shows a car they believe to be the one that struck Jones, heading east on Sheppard, shortly after the incident.

The vehicle is described as a small car, black or dark blue in colour, with a modified or loud muffler.

Police believe there were several other motorists around the suspect vehicle at the time and investigators are asking for those people to come forward. As well, police are appealing to body shops and vehicle repair locations for their assistance.
