Toronto General Hospital dealing with COVID-19 outbreak in operating room

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared in the operating room at Toronto General Hospital.

The hospital confirms to 680 NEWS that four staff have tested positive for the virus and no patients are affected.

“We’ve identified four confirmed COVID-19 positive staff over the past five days,” reads a statement from the hospital. “The overall risk to patients is considered extremely low.”

The hospital says a number of control measures have been put in place to prevent further transmission.

“Daily huddles will conducted on the unit to update staff on the status of the outbreak, and answer any questions that staff may have regarding COVID-19 and control measures in place.”

The operating room is expected to remain open.
