Two employees at a plastic fabrication company in the city’s east end have died after contracting COVID-19.
Unifor Local 303 president Anand Boodhai confirmed the deaths of the workers to CityNews on Wednesday afternoon.
A COVID-19 outbreak was declared at Scepter Corporation on April 15 and ended on May 5. Boodhai says that the company was only partially closed when the outbreak was declared and that more needs to be done to protect the workers.
At least 14 employees contracted COVID-19 during the outbreak, according to the City of Toronto’s website.
It is not clear where the employees who passed away contracted the virus.
There are currently 13 workplaces either fully or partially closed due to COVID-19 outbreaks in Toronto.
