Ian White’s first goal of the season couldn’t have come at a better time for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night.
White’s power play goal midway through the third period broke a 2-2 tie, propelling the Buds to a hard fought 4-2 road win over the offensively explosive Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Leafs rallied back from a 2-1 deficit to tie things up when Hal Gill snapped a 26-game scoring drought. The goal gave him 100 career points. Alexei Ponikarovsky finished things off with an empty netter as time wound down.
Tomas Kaberle continued his remarkable output, scoring the Leafs first goal of the game — his fifth in the past three games.
Brad Richards and Vincent Lecavalier had the Lightning goals.
