Jaywalking Pedestrian Killed At Intersection

A man who police say tried to beat the lights early Saturday morning has died.

Officers allege the 57-year-old man was running across the road at Major MacKenzie and McCowan, but he didn’t have the walk signal.

An eastbound car did, and as the driver made his way through the intersection on the green light, he hit the jaywalking pedestrian.
 
It happened around 3:20am.

The victim was pronounced dead in hospital

Police don’t expect to lay charges.  If you saw anything, call the York Regional Police traffic unit 905-773-1221 EXT. 7704.
