Woman’s Body Found In Whitby Ravine

Homicide detectives are investigating after a woman’s body was found in Whitby Thursday morning.

Around 9am, a man made the discovery as he was walking his dog in the ravine behind a White Oaks Court highrise, near Dundas and Brock streets.

Witnesses say the body was knee-deep in water, face down and naked below the waist.

“I saw what appeared to be a woman in her 30s or 40s. It didn’t look like she’d been there too long – no obvious signs of trauma,” described an area resident named Christina.

“I’m scared. And I’m waiting to hear more information on exactly what happened. But I’m worried for myself. I’m worried for my family – my kids.”

Police believe there may be other witnesses who can help in the investigation.

“This is a high-density location with several apartment buildings that do have elevation – that are capable of perhaps having been witnesses to what took place – either seeing or hearing. So we’re making a very strong appeal to the general public living in this vicinity,” said sgt. Nancy Van Rooy of the Durham Regional Police.

The case is still being treated as a suspicious death.
