More Than 20 Go Trains Cancelled, Delayed Or Late During Hectic Rush Home

For many, Tuesday was the last working day of the year before their Christmas vacations kick in. A lot of people will either be taking Christmas Eve day off or leaving work early.

So you can imagine that GO Train passengers were in a less than festive mood after the system experienced yet another major rush hour hiccup. A perfect storm of computer glitches, bad switches and unexpected hitches left passengers fuming again on as the system slowed or came to a halt on the Lakeshore lines.

More than 20 trains were affected at the height of rush hour.

The 5:38pm train to Pickering heading east was cancelled altogether due to what GO called computer problems, while many other trips were running up to half an hour late for other reasons.

A train to Oshawa that wound up 36 minutes late was said to have suffered signal problems and a passenger in need of assistance.

Another was delayed due to track congestion.

And there were problems with Richmond Hill, Lincolnville and Georgetown trains.

It was the perfect storm for passengers, who have had to endure endless delays over the past week as the GTA was slammed by three consecutive storms. Passengers were being urged to catch a later trip – or make alternate plans.

The good news is most of the major commuting is over for many. But those who still need to take the train should click here to find out the very latest on cancellations and postponements.
