Mom Convicted Of Giving Toddler Cocaine Gets Six Years In Jail

A mother convicted of giving her toddler cocaine was sentenced to six years in prison on Thursday.

Tamara Broomfield drugged her son Malique Broomfield Fitz-Charles for a 14-month period in 2004 and 2005. She then pretended not to know why he was sick all the time as doctors struggled to save his life.

Fitz-Charles, now seven, survived but has permanent brain damage which has made him hyperactive, non-compliant, impulsive and has caused him to throw temper tantrums.

Broomfield was convicted of assault causing bodily harm, aggravated assault endangering life, failing to provide the necessities of life and administering a noxious substance with the intent to endanger life in April 2009.
