Cops Solve Brazen High End Jewellery Store Robbery

It was a brazen jewel robbery caught on tape. But now those alleged to be responsible for the heist are in police custody.

Cops were called to the Cartier Jewellers on St. Thomas St. on January 7th, after three masked men armed with a sawed-off shotgun, a handgun and some hammers, entered the store around 2:45pm. They ordered the patrons and employees to lay on the floor, and used the latter tools to smash the display cases, taking whatever they wanted.

They grabbed thousands of dollars in precious gems, dumped them into a duffle bag and fled. Cops later found the discarded weapon and their disguises not far away. But the suspects in the robbery, which displayed well planned split second timing, were long gone.

But they didn’t get away without leaving some important clues behind. In addition to the evidence, police had excellent security video taken from the store’s cameras that showed the crime in action (top left).

In took police several months, but they finally assembled the evidence they needed to put names to those disguised faces, resulting in several arrests over the last week.

Shaundalea Hackett, 30, 19-year-olds Jafari Deschamps and Nikita Phillips and 37-year-old Randall Carvery are all charged with two counts of armed robbery, while the latter also faces forcible confinement allegations.

All have appeared in court and are being held in custody.

There’s no word on whether police recovered any of the stolen jewels.
