BRAMPTON, Ont. – The ringleader of the so-called Toronto 18, who had pleaded guilty to terror charges that included attacking Parliament, was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Monday.
Twenty-six-year-old Fahim Ahmad pleaded guilty to holding training camps and threatening to lead his recruits to Parliament Hill to “cut off some heads” and to “kill everybody.”
He changed his plea mid trial from not guilty to guilty of participating in terrorist groups, importing firearms and instructing his co-accused to carry out an activity for a terrorist group.
The crown had asked for a jail term of 18 years, while the defence asked for 12 years.
