Police cleared after mistakenly declaring woman dead

GUELPH, Ont. – Police officers in Guelph have been cleared of any wrongdoing after mistakenly pronouncing a woman dead.

The incident occurred in January, when police were called to to a motel after staff found what they thought was a dead woman in one of the rooms.

Officers arrived and pronounced the woman dead and sealed off the room because of what they saw as foul play.

Forensic investigators arrived and they discovered faint vital signs. She was taken to the hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injures and released.

Police have not said what injuries the woman sustained or how she was injured. The officers have since been retrained in how to pronounce deaths.
