Research examines the health benefits of alcohol

TORONTO, Ont. – Beer drinkers can feel a little better about grabbing a cold one on a warm day.

Chill Magazine has released a list of potential health benefits of consuming alcohol.

The article points to research that suggests two alcoholic drinks a day translates to a 20 per cent drop in a man’s risk of developing cardiac disease.

Other studies have shown that seniors who drink regularly had a lower chance of developing dementia and that moderate beer drinkers have stronger mental health, more friends, better education and less depression than non-drinkers.

One study suggests moderate drinking can reduce the risk of diabetes by about 40 per cent.

Research on rats shows that those fed beer were significantly less vulnerable to cancer.

Chill Magazine is offered at The Beer Store and at select newsstands nationally.
