Raps drop opening game of tough stretch

TORONTO, Ont. – The Toronto Raptors opened a tough stretch, where they’ll play eight games in eleven days, with a loss to the New Jersey Nets.

The Raps trailed for most of the match before eventually dropping the game 97-85, bringing their season record to 3-4.

Jose Calderon led the Raptors with 19 points and 8 assists, while Andrea Bargnani chipped-in with 17 points.

Both players have had a strong start to the season, with Bargnani showing an improved scoring touch and defensive energy and Calderon looking healthy once again.

Guard DeMar DeRozan was fairly ineffective for the Raps, finishing just 1-6 with three points. His season thus-far has been inconsistent, although the young swingman has shown an improved ability to knock down the tree-point shot.

The Nets have started the season slowly out of the gate, beginning 1-6 before beating the Raptors to improve to 2-6.

The Raptors are back at it on Saturday, when they will battle with the Philadelphia 76ers.
