Barrhaven woman must wait longer for double-lung transplant

It turns out they were not a perfect match.

Barrhaven woman Helene Campbell, who is waiting for a double-lung transplant, tweeted early Sunday morning that doctors may have found her a new pair of lungs.

But just three hours later, she was back on Twitter, saying the transplant was not taking place.

“Hey! The transplant has been cancelled because the lungs weren’t a perfect match!” she tweeted. “Its ok, I’ll get them when they’re the right ones!”

The 20-year-old made headlines when she began her campaign to raise awareness about organ donation and got attention from celebrities like Justin Bieber and Ellen DeGeneres.

In January, Campbell set Twitter ablaze with thousands of tweets and re-tweets including the terms #be-an-organ-donor and be-a-donor.ca, along with Justin Bieber’s Twitter handle @justinbieber.

She had hoped for a Bieber re-tweet, which she got. In addition, the Canadian teen superstar sent Campbell a personalized message.

She recently moved to Toronto where she is waiting for for a donor match.
