Man takes photos of women he deems ‘attractive’, police say activity is legal

TORONTO, Ont. – A Toronto man has sparked an uproar after taking unsettling but perfectly legal photos of Toronto women and posting them on Reddit, a popular social media website.

The man, who goes by the alias “Creepercomforts” admits to taking photos of fully-clothed women he finds attractive and posting the “creepshots” – photos of people taken without their knowledge – online.

Some of the women are in bathing suits, others in short-shorts and some are very revealing, but none of the images are upskirt or nude photos.

Toronto Police tell CityNews the legality of the photos depends on the purpose for which they have been posted. A person is legally allowed to take a photograph of someone else and post it on a public forum. However, if the photos were taken for a sexual purpose, they are then considered illegal.

Regardless of their purpose, many Toronto women – and men – tell CityNews Channel they are outraged with the photos.

“That’s sick and worrisome,” said one woman.

“I have sisters and knowing that there’s something like this, that’s just scary,” said one man.

“Creepercomforts” admits he has been blackmailed by someone on Reddit who threatened to release all of his personal information if he does not remove the photos and apologize to the women of Toronto. Since then, he tells CityNews he’s taken the photos off the website.
