FBI paid Van der Sloot $15 thousand in sting

U.S. authorities paid Joran Van der Sloot $15,000 in a sting while trying to build a case against him.

Authorities said the sting delayed his arrest.

Van der Sloot was a suspect in the 2005 murder of 18-year-old American woman Natalee Holloway in Aruba.

During the delay, Van der Sloot arrived in Lima, Peru where local police said he confessed to killing 21-year-old business student Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramírez in a hotel room.

Law enforcement officials revived the Holloway case six weeks ago when Van der Sloot allegedly reached out to an individual close to her mother and demanded $250,000 in exchange for disclosing the burial site of the body.
