Durham police uncover online dating scam

PICKERING, Ont. – Durham Regional Police are warning people who have online dating profiles to be cautious, as there has been a recent increase in internet dating scams.

Investigators said two Durham residents were tricked into sending thousands of dollars to suspects in Nigeria and Malaysia in July.

In many cases, police said victims are strung along for months until the suspect feels the victims have been tricked enough to be ripped off.
