PICKERING, Ont. – Four construction workers were injured after an explosion at a Pickering construction site Wednesday.
The incident occurred on York Durham Line just south of Hwy. 407 around 4:30 p.m.
Durham Regional Police said the workers were boring through the ground about 40 metres below the surface for a massive waste pipeline project. They encountered a methane pocket and a small explosion occurred.
Three workers were sent to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A fourth worker sustained minor injuries.
The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
