By Lucas Casaletto

Durham Regional Police are investigating after a yellow lancet needle was discovered in a bag of Halloween candy in Whitby.

Officers were called to a residence near Dunlop Street and Henry Street shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday after a suspicious item was found in a Halloween candy bag.

It’s then one person discovered a yellow blood sugar lancet needle placed inside the bag. These needles are commonly referred to as finger-stick blood samplers, used to obtain blood for testing blood sugar (glucose). A lancet is a sharp point or needle that is placed in the holder.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Investigators have not received any other complaints but noted that the police unit is asking that parents thoroughly check children’s candy and bags before consumption.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
