The City of Toronto’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will be heading online for another year.
The city will ring in 2022 with a livestream that can be viewed safely at home, with pre-recorded performances from venues across the city.
There will be a fireworks display on the waterfront but the city will hold off on fireworks at the CN Tower and Nathan Phillips Square this year. The city says the waterfront fireworks will viewable “from anywhere with views of Lake Ontario.”

“We have worked with Toronto Public Health to plan a safe New Year’s Eve celebration for our city,” says Mayor John Tory.
“This year’s livestream show and fireworks will celebrate the progress we have made as a city confronting the COVID-19 pandemic and honour our frontline workers, including those working non-stop to help residents get vaccinated.”
The current provincial public health restrictions limit social gatherings to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.
The livestream is being hosted by Breakfast Television’s Devo Brown and will begin at 10:30 p.m. on the city’s YouTube channel.
