20-year police veteran charged with breach of trust, discreditable conduct

A veteran Toronto police officer is facing breach of trust and discreditable conduct charges.

Investigators say between November 5, 2020 and January 28, 2021, Constable Ricardo Gomez allegedly accessed police computer databases and provided confidential information to a member of the public about other individuals.

Gomez was arrested on Wednesday and charged with four counts of breach of trust, two counts of unauthorized use of a computer and mischief. He is also facing two counts of discreditable conduct, three counts of breach of confidence, and two counts of insubordination under the Police Services Act.

Gomez, a 20 year veteran of the force, is suspended with pay pending the resolution of the charges.

This is not the first time Gomez has faced charges while a member of the police force. Back in 2009, the Special Investigations Unit charged him with assault causing bodily harm and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after a vehicle he was chasing was involved in a crash in the east end. At the time, Gomez was working with the Toronto Anti-Violence Intervention Strategy (TAVIS).

Gomez was also investigated in connection to an incident in 2005 where he fired his gun. He was cleared of any charges in that case.
