Five people were hospitalized, including two children, after a chlorine exposure at a fitness pool in North York.

Toronto Fire responded to a medical complaint at LA Fitness, in the Sheppard Avenue West and Yonge Street area, shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday.

First responders say multiple people had trouble breathing in the pool area.

Ten people were assessed at the scene, five of whom were hospitalized, including two children.

Toronto Fire and paramedics worked to decontaminate the pool.

EMS tells CityNews that the Ministry of Labour was called in to investigate, and the scene was transferred to Toronto Police.

LA Fitness could not be reached for comment.
