A spokesperson with Metrolinx says its team is investigating after a report from Toronto police warned of multiple people seen riding on the roof of a GO train on Tuesday.
Const. David Hopkinson says police were made aware of a dangerous act on a westbound GO train around 6 p.m. near Dufferin Street and the Gardiner Expressway.
Witnesses noted two to three people were riding on top of the train at the time. Hopkinson says officers heard of similar reports at Long Branch station in Etobicoke.
“I believe they are different sightings by people in different areas,” Hopkinson said. “We’re talking about the top of the train. It’s smooth, there are no railings or handholds. These trains are going similar to the cars on the expressways.”
“It’s extremely dangerous,” Hopkinson added.
No injuries were reported, and police are expected to investigate the matter further.
Spokesperson James Wattie tells CityNews that Metrolinx is aware of the reports and is looking into the matter.
“We are currently investigating and reviewing CCTV footage. As of this time, there is no impact on our GO train service,” Wattie said.
“It is an extremely dangerous act that we take very seriously. Not only can you face steep fines if caught, but you could also pay the ultimate price if engaging in these dangerous acts.”
Wattie wouldn’t confirm how many people were riding the train’s roof and said that Metrolinx is awaiting more information.
Earlier this month, authorities in Toronto launched separate investigations after a video posted on YouTube showed two people “surfing” on top of a TTC Line 3 Scarborough RT train on Canada Day.
This followed an earlier stunt in May after multiple videos were shared online of alleged subway surfers riding the back of a TTC train on Line 2.
