GTAA looking at possible airport casino, cannabis store, to increase revenue

The Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) is looking to increase revenue after losing millions of dollars during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Two options are being considered – a casino and a cannabis store.
According to the Toronto Star, the GTAA has hired former Ford staffer Clare Michaels to lobby on behalf of the airport authority. In her disclosure forms, Michaels suggests expanding alcohol service, adding retail cannabis stores and gaming opportunities at Toronto’s major airport.
This comes as Pearson airport faces severe flight delays. Just last month, the airport was ranked the worst airport in the world for delays where 52 per cent of flights were postponed.
The GTAA lost over $700 million dollars over the first two years of the pandemic and already increased pricing for both passengers and airlines.
This report has yet to be confirmed by the GTAA.
