Toronto hosting Remembrance Day ceremony at Old City Hall

The City of Toronto is hosting a Remembrance Day ceremony at Old City Hall on Friday morning.

The city says the service will “honour Canadians who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country during times of war, military conflict and in peacekeeping.”

The downtown service will begin at 10:45 a.m. and will include remarks from Mayor John Tory and the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.

A number of road closures will be in place around Old City Hall starting at 10 a.m. and street parking will not be available during the closures. All TTC streetcars and buses will be diverted.

Remembrance Day road closures – 10 a.m. to noon

  • Bay Street – Albert Street to Richmond Street West
  • Queen Street West – Yonge Street to east of York Street
  • James Street – Queen Street West to Albert Street

 

Other Remembrance Day services to be held across the city at 10:45 a.m. (unless otherwise specified)

  • East York Civic Centre Memorial Gardens, 850 Coxwell Ave.
  • Etobicoke Civic Centre Cenotaph, 399 The West Mall
  • Fort York National Historic Site, Garrison Common, 100 Garrison Rd. (begins at 10:30 a.m.)
  • Meridian Arts Centre, George Weston Recital Hall, 5040 Yonge St., North York
  • Scarborough War Memorial, 2190 Kingston Rd.
  • York Civic Centre Cenotaph, 2700 Eglinton Ave. W.

 

The city has also announced the Toronto sign will be lit red on Friday and a flag will be raised at City Hall that flew at Juno Beach in 2019 on Vimy Day. All TTC vehicles will come to a halt for two minutes at 11 a.m.
