A woman in her 70s is dead after she was struck by a vehicle in Chinatown on Monday, Toronto police say.

It happened at Dundas Street West and Spadina Avenue just after 11:15 a.m.

“A vehicle was travelling west on Dundas, turning north on Spadina when it struck a female pedestrian,” said Const. Laurie Kranenburg.

The woman, who paramedics initially said was 55 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a TTC vehicle was involved in the collision but didn’t provide further details, only saying it was not a streetcar or a bus.

“There was a TTC vehicle that was involved in the collision and the driver has remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” Const. Laura Brabant said.

TTC confirmed a non-revenue TTC vehicle was involved in a pedstrian fatality. “While we don’t have any information as to cause, our thoughts are with all involved in the wake of this tragedy. As always, police have our full cooperation as they investigate,” read the statement.

The intersection of Dundas and Spadina remains closed to traffic, and TTC vehicles are diverting in the area.
