College Street construction wrapping up early: City

By Jordan Kerr

It’s always nice, and rare, when construction finishes ahead of schedule.

The City of Toronto says the bulk of the work on College Street between Bathurst and Bay streets is now done, with all full road closures lifted two-and-a-half weeks early.

Crews have been working along College since September, with full and partial closures of the road taking place in phases.

It made for a frustrating drive, as motorists were forced onto alternates multiple times, and where the road was open, it was down to just a single lane.

The College Street construction covered multiple upgrades, including the replacement of the streetcar tracks, new bike lanes and improving the pedestrian experience along College between Bathurst and Bay.

The most intrusive work, the streetcar track replacement, is now complete.

There is still cleanup work to be done, so there still will be some lane restrictions in place around College and University Avenue, but no more full closures.

In the spring, crews will return to complete work on the cycle track between Spadina and Manning avenues, but there are no full road closures anticipated.
