A fight during the evening rush at Toronto’s busiest subway station led to someone being pushed onto the tracks on Tuesday.

Police tell CityNews two men got into an argument on the platform at Bloor-Yonge station around 6:15 p.m., which escalated into a physical fight.

During the fight, one man allegedly pushed the other onto the track level.

TTC special constables who were on scene arrested the suspect, who was eventually turned over to Toronto police. He has been charged with assault.

There is no word on the victim’s condition or if he suffered any injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and police are working with the TTC to determine what led to the incident.

Violence on the TTC has left riders wary

Tuesday’s incident is the latest in a string of violence on the TTC that has left riders on the edge and led to growing calls for improved safety on the transit system.

A woman was pushed onto the tracks at Bloor-Yonge station in April, she narrowly escaped critical injuries when she was able to roll and press against the platform as the train went by.

Last month, a 31-year-old woman died after a double stabbing at High Park subway station that police later confirmed was a random attack. A woman was arrested a week later after six people were attacked on a subway at St. Clair Station.

Earlier in the year, a woman died after she was lit on fire while on a bus at Kipling station.

Following the deadly stabbing in December the TTC said it was taking measures to improve safety, saying they would be adding “Special Constables and uniformed staff” and working with police to increase their presence on the system.
