Achiuwa and Boucher: The WWE Tag Team of the NBA

The Raptors are back in Toronto after twelve days on the road. CityNews’ Sports Reporter Lindsay Dunn spoke to Chris Boucher and Precious Achiuwa about their friendship and how it’s tied to a WWE duo.

“You made the rules, and we will break them.”

That is just one of the famous quotes from the WWE Tag Team of Shawn Michaels and Triple H (at least one friendly enough to put in an article). The dynamic duo was part of the group D-Generation X that absolutely would wreak havoc in the wrestling ring in the late 90’s to mid 2000’s.

Raptors players Chris Boucher and Precious Achiuwa felt such a kinship with the duo that they have been calling each other Triple H and Shawn Michaels on and off the court.

“I watched WWE and D-Generation X’s growing up,” Boucher told CityNews. “Those two together were doing their own thing when they were on the floor and made chaos in the WWE and I feel like me and Precious have that chemistry on the court that just messes everything up with chaos and we can help each other.”

At moments during the Raptors games when they are on the court together you can see the energy that they bring not only to the game but to each other. D-Generation X was best known as a group of rebels who broke the rules.

“They are just a better duo together than individually,” Achiuwa said about the WWE tag team. “Watching the WWE growing up they just had that connection and I feel like we both have that connection.”

Boucher, who grew up in Montreal, is the ‘Shawn Michaels’ of the duo. While many think he is the ‘Michaels’ of the group because of an infamous moment in WWE history known as the ‘Montreal Screwjob’ where Shawn Michaels went off script and won a match against Brett Hart in Montreal, that’s not the case.

“So obviously he (Achiuwa) is a little bit bigger than me and Triple H is bigger than Shawn Michaels so I was like we can be D-Generation X and you’re Triple H and I am Shawn Michaels and I just kept saying that and I liked what we were doing.”

And so the tag team of the Raptors in the NBA was born.

Achiuwa even mentioned to CityNews how sometimes after games, where either Boucher or Achiuwa have great moments, Boucher will be waiting at his locker showing Achiuwa highlights of the WWE Tag team.

“He never stops and he always got some Shawn Michaels clips,” Achiuwa says with a laugh. “He is always showing me something that has to do with that group. He never stops.”

If you are well versed in WWE history you may already know that D-Generation X wasn’t just made up of Shawn Michaels and Triple H. It had several members of the group including Chyna and the New Age Outlaws. So we asked Boucher and Achiuwa who on the Raptors would be in D-Generation X?

Both players say that it would be themselves alongside O.G. Anunoby and Scottie Barnes.

You can watch Precious Achiuwa and Chris Boucher, a.k.a Triple H and Shawn Michaels, Wednesday night on Sportsnet when the Raptors host the San Antonio Spurs.

And “If you’re not down with that, we’ve got two words for ya!”
