Explosion, fire causes significant damage to commercial building in Scarborough

Toronto Fire officials are investigating a two-alarm fire and explosion that caused significant damage to an industrial strip plaza in the city’s east end.

Fire crews were called to the scene on Finchdene Square near Finch Avenue East and Markham Road, just before midnight on Tuesday for reports of an explosion.

Officials said when crews arrived, there were small amounts of flames and smoke but they noticed significant structural damage to the plaza.

They also said multiple units were damaged.

The cause of the fire and explosion is not yet known.

No injuries were reported.
